Southern Electric Southern Premier League

Old Tauntonians and Romsey 2001 Report by Stuart Tulk

A mid-table finish was probably what was expected when Old Tauntonians and Romsey failed to secure an overseas player for the season. There main problem was that they tended to bat badly in the games in which they bowled well and visa versa.

The highlight of the season was the away win against eventual champions Portsmouth. Individually, Charlie Forward (567 runs) was again top run scorer, supported by veteran wicket-keeper Keith Trodd (357) and Max Smith (379). There were also useful contributions from newcomer Nick Stothert and evergreen John Barnard.

On the bowling front, Nick Wood (30) took most wickets, with support from a much improved Jeremy Ord (28) and an improved latter half of the season in the acuracy of Mukesh Morjaria. OT's & Romsey were unfortunately left with a feeling of what might have been, but we are looking forward to next season, when with an influx of younger players should secure a top three finish.
