Southern Electric Southern Premier League

Old Tauntonians and Romsey 2001 Report by Stuart Tulk

You would expect a top three finish from a club which boasted the leading divisional run maker, the leading wicket taker, the most successful wicket-keeper and top catcher, and an all-rounder who scored in excess of 400 runs and took 25 wickets. But it was not to be. a mid-table finish was somewhat disappointing.

Charlie Forward (645 runs) and Nick Wood (38 wickets) won their respective SPL II Batting and Bowling Awards, while Max Smith, a major asset underlined his all-round skills with 481 runs and a 26 wicket haul. Jeremy Ord's 19 wickets (economy rate 2.7 runs per over) showed why he is amongt the best new ball bowlers about.

The major reason for our poorish season was the lack of an overseas player, especially as the majority of games we lost were as a result of a major contribution from out opponents foreign.

Next season we hope will be brighter, with a major finantial contribution being received from a mystery benefactor. It is hoped this will allow us to attract new players to the club.
